Cookies and browser storage

The short, useful version of what this site remembers. Analytics stays off unless you say yes, and there are no advertising or retargeting cookies hiding behind the furniture.

The important bit

The site stores your cookie choice so it does not ask on every page. Google Tag Manager, and Google Analytics 4 through it, load only after you accept analytics. Reject it and the site still works; Cited just receives less information about how people use it.

What the site stores

Local storage and session storage are browser features rather than cookies, but they sit in the same practical category: small pieces of information saved in your browser. Hosting and security services may also use essential technical mechanisms where needed to deliver and protect the site.

Optional Google Analytics

If you accept analytics, the site loads Google Tag Manager, which runs Google Analytics 4 using Cited's measurement ID. It can collect information such as:

  • the page viewed and when it was viewed;
  • the page or site that referred the visit;
  • broad browser, device and screen information;
  • an approximate area derived from the network connection; and
  • session and visitor identifiers used to count visits.

We use that to see which pages are useful, where people get stuck, and what deserves improving. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising or retargeting, and no analytics tag or cookieless analytics ping is sent before you accept.

Changing your choice

Use the Cookies button at the bottom of the site to reopen the choice. If you reject analytics after accepting it, Cited disables further analytics collection on that page and removes the Google Analytics cookies it can access. You can also clear cookies and site data through your browser settings.

Forms, fonts and embedded video

The cookie choice controls Google Analytics. A few other services are used for specific jobs:

  • Resend emails contact, free-consult and Mosey beta submissions to Cited when you press the submit button.
  • Google Fonts supplies the typefaces used by the site.
  • YouTube supplies embedded talk videos using its privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com player. YouTube may still receive request information and may use storage when its player is loaded or used.

Following a link to another website also takes you into that provider's own cookie and privacy setup.

No marketing cookies

Cited does not currently use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels or a marketing-cookie category on this site. If that changes, this page and the consent choice will be updated before the new tool is treated as allowed.
